Patna : The SIT of Patna police on November 15, 2017, arrested five persons including the chairperson of a Bakhtiarpur based NGO, Maa Sarveshwari Seva Sansthan, Bobby Devi, Treasurer Pramila, and their three associates here in connection with over Rs 15 crore toilet construction scam in Patna district. Bobby was arrested from a flat at Rajivnagar, Patna, and on her revelation Pramila and three others were arrested, according to a senior police officer.
With this, police have arrested 9 persons in connection with toilet construction scam. Police had arrested Secretary of the Sansthan Manoj Kumar and seized his SUV on November 14 when he was going to surrender before a Patna court. The SIT had earlier arrested an Assistant Manager of SBI Shiv Kumar Jha from Buxar, a Computer Operator Priti Bharti, and Pravin Kumar Sharma, husband of Bobby Kumari.
The kingpin of the scam former Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Patna, engineer Vinay Kumar Sinha and Cashier Bitteshwar Prasad Singh had transferred Rs 2.15 crore into the account of Maa Sarveshwari SevaSansthan, according to police sorces. The government fund was allegedly also transferred into the accounts of four other NGOs in connivance few bank officials. The NGOs were allegedly getting commission for it. The other NGOs involved in the scam include Adi Shakti Seva Sanstha, Biharsharif, Satyam Shiv Kala Kendra, Jalalpur City, Patna, and Shiv Seva Sansthan, Maner. Vinay Kumar Sinha and Bitteshwar are, however, yet to be nabbed.
Police, on the direction of Patna DM, had lodged an FIR in connection with the scam on November 2, 2017. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had on November 13 said that the guilty will not be spared and stern action will be taken against them.
