Patna : The second test between England and New Zealand ended in a draw at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, New Zealand, on April 3, 2018, due to a brilliant batting display by spinner Ish Sodhi, who made an unbeaten 56 in 168 balls with 9 fours, and 45 in 97 balls with 6 fours by allrounder Colin de Grandhomme. Fast bowler Neil Wagner made 7 in 103 balls and gave good company to Sodhi. New Zealand won the two-match series 1-0.

New Zealand scored 256/8 in their second innings in 124.4 overs. Opener Tom Latham scored 83 in 207 balls with 10 fours but Captain Kane Williamson was out for a duck. Former captain Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls made 13 runs each. Wicketkeeper W J Watling scored 19 runs. For England, fast bowlers Stuard Broad and Mark Wood and spinner Jack Leach took two wickets each. James Anderson and captain Joe Root took one wicket each. Broad had taken 6/54 in New Zealand’s fist innings while Anderson had taken 4/76.

England had made 307 runs in their first innings and 352/9 in the second innings. New Zealand had made 278 in their first innings and 256/8 in the second innings. The New Zealand batsmen batted the entire fifth and final day to draw the test. New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee had taken 6/62 in England’s first innings while Trent Boult had taken 4/87. Colin de Grandhomme had taken 4/52 in England’s second innings while Trent Boult and Neil Wagner had taken two wickets each.
