Patna : New Zealand beat West Indies (WI) by 119 runs in third T20 International at Bay Oval, Maunganui, New Zealand, on January 3, 2018, to wrap up the three-match series 2-0. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand made 243/5 in 20 overs with both openers Martin Guptil and Colin Munro scoring at a very brisk pace.

Munro, in fact, made 104 in 53 balls at a hurricane pace hitting 10 sixes and 3 fours while Guptil made 63 in 38 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. The first New Zealand wicket fell at 136. It was Munro’s third T20 International century. New Zealand captain K Williamson made 19 while T Bruce made 23. A Kitchen was run out for 9. For West Indies, Carlos Brathwaite took 2/52 in four overs while Jerome Taylor took 1/53 in 4 overs. R Emrit took 1/42.

Set a target of 244 to win the match and equal the series,West Indies could score only 124/9 in 16.3 overs with Shai Hope absent hurt. A Fletcher was the top scorer with 46 in 32 balls hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Both West Indies openers : Chris Gayle and C Walton ( wicketkeeper) were out without scoring. R Powell made 16 while Captain Carlos Brathwaite made 15. A Nurse remained unbeaten on 14. For NewZealand, Tim Southee took 3/21 in 2.3 overs while Trent Boult took 2/29 in 4 overs. Spinner Ish Sodhi took 2/25 in 4 overs while A Kitchen took 1/33. S Hetmyer was run out for seven. The seconf T20 International was abandoned due to rain.

Munro was declared Player of the Match.
