Patna : New Zealand beat Pakistan by 8 wickets under Duckworth -Lewis (DL) method in the ain affected second ODI at Saxton Oval, Nelson, New Zealand, to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series on January 9, 2018, courtesy a brilliant batting display from opener Martin Guptil. Guptail hit an explosive unbeaten 86 in 71 balls hitting 5 fours and 5 sixes and was declared Player of the Match.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan scored 246/9 in 50 overs with Mohad Hafeez hitting 60 in 71 balls hitting 8 fours and Shadab Khan 52 in 68 balls hitting 3 fours and a six. Hasan Ali made 51 in only 31 balls hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. Pakistan were tottering at 1441/7 but half- centuries from Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali gave some respectability to their score. New Zealand pacer L Ferguson took 3/39 in 10 over while T Southee took 2/57 in 10 overs. Trent Boult 1/54 in 10 overs while T Asltle took 2/50. Mitchell Santner also took one wicket.
But, then rain intervened and New Zealand were were given a revised target of scoring 151 in 25 over, which they achieved with seven balls to spare. Former New Zealand Captain remained unbeaten on 45 in 43 balls hitting 4 fours. Captain Kane Williamson made 19 in 28 balls while opener Colin Munro was out without scoring. New Zealand were 47/2 when rain intervened. But, when the play resumed after 2 hours, Guptil was in a different zone.New Zealand attained the target in 23.5 overs.
