Patna : New Zealand beat Pakistan by 61 runs under the Duckworth / Lewis (D/L) method in the rain affected first ODI at Basin Reserve, Willington, New Zealand, on January 6, ending Pakistan’s run of 9 consecutive win in the ODIs. New Zealand made 315/7 in 50 overs with Captain Kane Williamson scoring 115 in 117 balls hitting 8 fours and a six, his 10th ODI ton. Williamson was declared Player of the Match. Pakistan had won the toss but elected to bowl first.

New Zealand openers Martin Guptil and Colin Munro made 48 and 56 respectively while H Nicholls made 50 in 43 balls and Ross Taylor 12. For Pakistan, H Ali took 3/61 while Mohd Amir took 1/57, R Raees 1/68, F Ashraf 1/58 and F Zaman 1/19.

Replying to the New Zealand score, Pakistan had made 166/6 in 30.1 over when rain stopped the play. Fakhar Zaman made 82 in 86 balls hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes and S Khan 28 in 32 balls hitting 4 fours. For New Zealand, Tip Southee took 3/22 and Trent Boult 2/35. T Astle took 1/29.
