Patna : New Zealand, who swept the ODI series against Pakistan recently, on January 22, 2018, defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in the first T20I at Westpac Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand.
New Zealand stand in skipper Tim Southee won the toss but elected bowl first. Batting first, Pakistan were all out for 105 in 19.4 overs with Babar Azam scoring 41 in 41 balls hitting a four and a six and Hasan Ali 23 in 12 balls hitting 3 sixes. Captain and wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmad made 9 in 10 balls hiiting a four.
For New Zealand, Seth Hayden Arnold Rance took 3/26 in 4 overs and stand in skipper Tim Southee 3/13 in 4 overs. Spinner Mitchell Santner took 2/15, Colin Munro 1/12 and A Kitchen 1/3.
New Zealand attained the victory target of 106 in 15.5 overs for the loss of three wickets with opener Colin Munro scoring an unbeaten 49 in 43 balls hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes and Ross Taylor scoring an unbeaten 22 in 13 hitting 3 fours. Tom Bruce made 26 in 22 balls hiiting 3 fours and a six. Opener Martin Guptil was out for 2 while wicketkeeper G Phillips was out for three only. For Pakistan Rumman Raees took 2/24 in 4 overs while Shadab Khan took 1/18 in 4 overs. Colin Munro was declared Player of the Match.
