Ranchi (Jharkhand) : Niraj Sinha, a 1987 batch IPS officer and DG, Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) also holding additional charge of DG, Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB),  on February 12, 2021, took charge as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand from his predecessor M V Rao who has been transferred to the post of DG, Homeguards and Fire Services. He was appointed DGP on February 11, 2021.

Soon after assuming charge of his new assignment, DGP Niraj Sinha went to meet Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren which he termed as a courtsey call.

Niraj has served as SP of several districts of Bihar and Jharkhand including Bhojpur, Hazaribag and Ranchi. Talking to the reporters, Niraj said that maintaining law and order besides crushing naxal outfits, and checking economic offences will be his top priorities.
Meanwhile, perturbed over his sudden transfer, MVRao wrote in his blog”I am grateful to people who have been critical for having kept me alert. I am also grateful to persons who spewed venom for making me stronger”
