New Delhi : The BJP-led NDA has won 353 of the 542 seats in the General Elections 2019. The BJP has alone won 303 seats, an increase of 21 seats over its 2014 General Elections tally. The NDA won 64 of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. It had won 73 seats in UP in 2014.

After sealing its huge electoral victory, the BJP on May 24, 2019, began discussing the process of government formation while the Congress dealt with the fallout of defeat with resignations from state leaders pouring in. The Congress could win only 52 seats, 2 less than it requires for the post of Leader of Opposition. Congress had won 44 seats in 2014 General Elections. The party drew a blank in 18 states/UTs including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana in 2019.

The DMK won 23 seats while TMC and the YSRCP won 22 each. Shiv Sena won 18 seats while the JD(U) won 16 seats. Both Shiv Sena and JD(U) are NDA constituents.

The Left parties CPI and CPM could win only 5 seats — three for the CPM and two for CPI. This is about half their tally of 10 in 2014 LS polls. The Samajwadi Party won five seats while its ally Bahujan Samaj Party bagged 10 seats.
