Nawada: Court of Nawada ACJM VI, Sandip Agnihotri, on June 4, 2017, issued a show cause to the SHO,Nardiganj police station, seeking explanation from him regarding circumstances leading to the inhuman thrashing of two youth. The court directed that both the youth be produced before it afresh after medical treatment.

The two youth were brutally beaten for defaulting on payment of Rs 25,000 to the SHO who had allegedly entrusted them with the task of selling seized liquor bottles in the black market. The SHO, however, informed that the youth fell on an under-construction road while evading arrest.

According to the hospitalised youth, SHO Manoj Kumar used to sell seized liquor through them for the past few months. But, they defaulted in paying Rs 25,000 to the SHO and it led to a bitter war of
words between them. The SHO arrested them on June 3, 2017, when they were on their way home and were falsely implicated them in a case  by showing the ‘recovery’ of 4 full bottles of Imperial Blue IMFL and one 375 ml bottle. Later in the night, the SHO and some policemen from the Nardiganj PS beat them with lathis. When they were produced before the magistrate, they narrated their ordeal to the magistrate who referred them for treatment and sought an explanation from the investigating officer (IO).
However, according to Nardiganj PS SHO Manoj Kumar, the two youth, Chhotu Pandey and nephew Rahul Pandey were professional bootleggers and were sent to jail six months back for being caught boozing. The two were nabbed on June 3 following a “hot chase”. Five IMFL bottles were recovered from their possession. When asked that the youth accused him of a brutal thrashing, he said that they were injured after falling on an unconstruction road near Miyabigha, while being chased by the cops.
It may be mentioned here that not all seized liquor is destroyed by the cops. Even the Nardiganj SHO had publicly ‘destroyed’ seized liquor a few days earlier but most of the destroyed liquor was “desi” liquor but many bottles of IMFL were allegedly saved for sale.
