Patna : World No 190 Sumit Nagal, 22, India, went down fighting to five-time former champion and World No 3 Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, in the first round of US Open at New York City, New York, USA,  on August 27, 2019, early morning. Federer beat Nagal in four-sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

Federer, the winner of 20 Grand Slam titles,  won 7 break points in the match to 3 by the Indian playing his first Grand Slam event coming through qualifiers. Medvedev beat Gunneswaran 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 to enter the 2nd round. Medvedev, the 7th seed, won 7 break points in the match to just 1 by Gunneswaran. The Russian won 5 games in a row to 2 by the Indian. Top seed and World No 1 Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, swept aside World No 76 Roberto Carballes Baena, 26, Spain, to enter the second round of US Open at New York City, New York, on August 26, 2019, late night. Wawrinkaq won 95 service points to 75 Sinner.
