Nadal to play Wawrinka in 3rd round of Rogers Cup

Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and top seed Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 21.Germany, World No 26 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, World No 27  Stefanos Tsitsipas, 19, Greece, and World No 195 Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, entered the Round of 16 of Rogers Cup, Toronto, Canada, an ATP Masters 1,000 tournament, on August 9, 2018.

Nadal defeated World No 55 Benoit Paire, 29, France, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. Incidentally, Nadal did not serve a single Ace in the match while Paire fired 4 Aces. Both the players committed 1 double fault each. But, Nadal won 6 break points to 3 by Paire. Nadal also won 4 games in a row in the match. Nadal will play Wawrinka in the Round of 16 on August 10, 2018.

Shapovalov beat World No 14 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, 6-3, 7-5 in the second round. Shapovalov fired 9 Aces in match to just 1 by Fognini. He also won 4 break points to just 2 by Fognini. He will play World No 39 Robin Haase, Netherlands, in the Round of 16.

Alexander Zverev, the second seed, beat B Klahn, USA, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round. Zverev fired 7 Aces in the match to 3 by Klahn. He also won 2 break points. Klahn committed 5 double faults to 2 by Zverev.

Tsitsipas stunned World No 8 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, 6-3, 7-6 in the second round firing 13 Aces in the match to just 5 by his rival. Tsitsipas won just 1 break point in the match. Thiem committed 3 double faults to just 1 by Tsitsipas.

Wawrinka beat World No 51 Marton Fucsovics, 26, Hungary, 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the second round. Both the players served 4 Aces each in the match. Fucsovics committed 5 double faults in the match to just 2 by Wawrinka. Interestingly, Fucsovics won 4 break points to 2 by Wawrinka.

World No 6 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, beat World No 87 Evgeny Donskoy, 28, Russia, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 to enter the third round. Anderson fired 14 Aces in the match to just 2 by Donskoy. Anderson also committed 6 double faults to 3 by Donskoy.

World No 12 Diego Schwartzman, 25, Argentina, beat World No 32 Sam Querrey, 30, USA, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to enter the third round. Querrey fired 16 Aces in the match to just 2 by Schwartzman.

World No 41 Francis Tiafoe, 20, USA, beat World No 29 Milos Raonic, 27, Canada, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 to move into the third round. Raonic hammered 20 Aces in the match to 6 by Tiafoe. But, Raonic also committed 5 double faults.

World No 9 John Isner, 33, USA, beat World No 80 Pierre Hugues Herbert, 27, France,  7-6, 6-2 to enter the third round. Isner hammered 25 Aces in the match to 4 by Herbert.

Tiafoe will play Dimitrov while Djokovic will play Tsitsipas in the 3rd round.
