Patna : Twelve time champion and 2nd seed Rafael Nadal, 34, Spain, 3rd seed Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, 12 seed Diego Schwartzman, 28, Argentina, and 16th seed Stan Wawrinka, 35, Switzerland, entered the 3rd round at French Open, a grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts, winning their respective 2nd round matches at Roland Garros, Paris, France, on September 30, 2020. But 21st seed John Isner, USA, crashed out of French Open losing his second round match to compatriot Sebastian Korda, 20, a qualifier.

Nadal, the World No 2, crushed Mackenzie McDonald, 25, USA, 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 in 2nd round winning 7 break points including 3 in second set. Nadal, in all, won 85 points in the match to 47 by the American. The Spainiard, who has won 85 career titles,  won 11 games in a row in the match. Nadal, however, committed 4 double faults to 2 by the American. Both the players served 1 Ace each in the match.

Reigning US Open Champion Dominic Thiem beat qualifier Jack Sock, 28, USA, a former Top 10 player, in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 in second round. Thiem won 6 break points in the match to 2 by the American. The Austrian fired 8 Aces in the match to 2 by Sock. The American committed 3 double faults to 1 by Thiem. The Austrian won 108 points to 87 by Sock. Thiem also won 5 games in a row in the match to 2 by the American.

Schwartzman, who had reached Italian Open final recently, beat Lorenzo Giustino, 29, Italy, a qualifier, in straight sets 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 in second round. Schwartzman won 10 break points in the match to 3 by the Italian. Giustino fired 5 Aces in the match to just 1 by the Argentine. Schwartzman also won 8 games in a row in the match to 3 by Giustino. The Italian committed 5 double faults to just 1 by the Argentine.

Wawrinka, the 2015 French Open champion, beat Dominik Koepfer, 26, Germany, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in second round. Wawrinka, who has won 16 career titles, won 5 break points in the match to 1 by the German. The Swiss, in all, won 119 points to 94 by the German. Wawrinka won 7 games in a row in the match to 3 by Koepfer. Wawrinka also fired 6 Aces in the match to just 1 by Koepfer.

Sebastian Korda stunned 21st seed John Isner 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in second round. Korda won 4 break points in the match to 3 by Isner. Korda, in all, won 98 points to 94 by Isner. Isner, 35, though hammered 13 Aces to 7 by Korda. But, Isner also committed 8 double faults to 6 by Korda. Isner, who has won 15 career titles, won 5 games in a row to 3 by Korda, who will face Pedro Martinez Portero, 23, Spain, in third round on October 2, 2020.

Pedro Martinez Portero, Spain, beat Mikhail Kukushkin, 32, Kazakhstan, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 in 2nd round winning 11 games in a row. Portero won 9 break points in the match to 2 by Kukushkin, who had stunned 14th seed Fabio Fognini, taly, in first round.
