Patna : Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, with 8,770 points has regained the World No 1 position in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings released on May 21, 2018, swapping place with Roger Federer, 36, who returns to No 2 position with 8,670 points.
Nadal has returned to Number 1 position in ATP rankings after winning the Italian Open Masters 1000 singles title getting 1,000 points on May 20 defeating defending champion Alexander Zverev, 21, in the final. Zverev stays Number 3 with 5,615 points.
But, Marin Cilic, 29, Croatia, has jumped one place to be ranked 4,950 points after reaching the semi-finals of Italia Open whereas Grigor Dimitrov, 27, Bulgaria, has slipped one place and is ranked Number 5 with 4,870 points followed by Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, at 6th place with 4,450 points and Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, at 7th position with 3,635 points. Dominic Thiem, who had lost in the 2nd round of Italian Open, stays Number 8th with 3,195 points followed by David Goffin, 27, at 9th place with 3,020 points and John Isner, 33, USA, at 10th plac pointse with 2,955 points.
Former World No 1 and winner of 12 Grand Slam singles titles Novak Djokovic, 30, Serbia, has slipped 4 places and is ranked 22nd in the ATP rankings with 1,655 points as he failed to defend his 600 points at Italian Open where he had reached final in 2017. In 2018, Djokovic lost to Nadal in the semi-finals. Former World No 1 and winner of three Grand Slam titles Andy Murray, 31, UK, is ranked 45th with 1,080 points.
Yuki Bhambri, 25, India, is ranked 94th in the ATP rankings with 665 points while Ramkumar Ramnathan, 23, India, has jumped three places is ranked 121st with 454 points. Prajnesh Gunneswaran, 28, India, has slipped 8 places to be ranked 183rd with 319 points.
But, Sumit Nagal, 20, India, has jumped three places to be ranked 223rd in the ATP rankings with 260 points. Arjun Khade, 24, India, has jumped three places to be ranked 368th with 122 points while Sasi Kumar Mukund, 21, India, has slipped 9 places to be ranked 386th with 111 points. Saketh Myneni, 30, India, has jumped two places to be ranked 439th with 86 points.
