Patna : World No 2 Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, beat World No 16 Stan Wawrinka, 34, Switzerland, in straight sets to enter the quarter-finals of Rolex Paris Masters at Bercy, Paris, France, for the 7th time on November 1, 2019.

Second seed Nadal, the winner of 19 Grand Slam titles, beat 16th seed Wawrinka, the winner of 3 Grand Slam titles, 6-4, 6-4 in 87 minutes in Round of 16 winning 2 break points in the match besides winning 3 games in a row.

Wawrinka though fired 7 Aces in the match to 4 by Nadal, who has never the Paris Masters title. But, the Spaniard won 44 service points to 35 by Wawrinka. Nadal’s winning percentage on his first serve ( 77 %) was higher than that of Wawrinka (69%). But, Wawrinka’s winning percentage on his second serve (69%) was higher than that of Nadal ( 64%). Nadal will face World No 35 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga,34, France in QFs on November 2, 2019. Nadal now leads Wawrinka 19-3 Head to Head.

World No 13 Gael Monfils, 33, France, also entered the QFs beating World No 50 Radu Albot, 29, Moldova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 battling back from one set down. Monfils fired 12 Aces in the match to just 1 by Albot. Monfils, thec 13th seed, also won 4 break points to 2 by Albot. The French won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Albot. He also won 57 service points to 45 by Moldovan.

World No 28 Denis Shapovalov, 20, Canada, stunned World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, in a three-set thriller 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in 2hr 9 minutes in Round of 16 continuing his giant killing run to enter the QFs on October 31, 2019, mid-night. Shapovalov has upset World No 12 Fabio Fognini, 32, Italy, in second round. The Canadian will face Monfils in QFs on November 2.
