Patna : Defending champion and top seed Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, reached the semi-finals of Rogers Cup, an ATP Masters 1,000 Hard Court tournament, at Montreal, Canada, defeating World No 11 Fabio Fognini, 32, Italy, in the quarter-finals on August 10, 2019, early morning. Nadal needs to reach at least final of the tournament to retain his World No 2 position. The next ATP rankings will be released on August 12, 2019.

Nadal beat Fognini, the 7th seed, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 1 hr 57 minutes in the quarter-finals coming from behind. Nadal now leads Fognini 12-4 Head to Head. Fognini had last defeated Nadal in the semi-finals of ATP Monte Carlo Masters 1,000 in April 2019.

Nadal won 4 break in the match on August 10 to 2 by the Italian. Both the players won 5 games each in a row in the match. The Spaniard won 46 service points to 37 by Fognini. Nadal served 7 Aces in the match to 4 by the Italian. The match saw incredible shots and rallies.

World No 8 Karen Khachanov, 23, Russia, beat World No 7 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, the 3rd seed, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals. Sixth seed Khachanov won 3 break points in the match to none by Zverev. The Russian also won 3 games in a row in the match. Khachanov served 5 Aces in the match to 3 by Zverev, whose poor form continues. Khachanov will face World No 9 Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, in the semi-finals. Medvedev had upset 2nd seed and World No 4 Dominic Thiem, Austria, in the QFs on August 9, 2019, night.
