Nadal, Khachanov, Agut, Fognini, Monfils reach QFs of Rogers Cup

Patna : World No 2 and top seed Rafael Nadal, Spain, World No 8 Karen Khachanov, Russia, World No 11 Fabio Fognini, Italy, and World No 13 Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, reached the quarter-finals of Rogers Cup at Montreal, Canada, on August 9, 2019, early morning.

Defending Champion Nadal beat World No 24 Guido Pella, 29, Argentina, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hr 41 minutes in third round on August 9.  Nadal’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 76 % & 53 %) was much higher than that of Pella ( 68 % & 40 %). Nadal  fired 7 Aces in the match to 5 by Pella. The Spaniard was 3 break points to 1 by the Argentine. Nadal now leads Pella 4-0 Heade to Head.

Nadal will face Fognini, the 7th seed, in the quarter-finals at 4 am August 10, 2019. Fognini, 32,  advanced to the QFs defeating World No 69 Adrian Mannarino, 31, France, in the third round. The Italian, winner of ATP Monte Carlo Masters in April this year, beat Mannarino 6-2, 7-5 to reach QFs of the tournament. Mannarino, however, fired 7 Aces in the match to 3 by Fognini. The Italian won 5 break points to 2 by Mannarino. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 2 by Mannarino.

Khachanov beat World No 21 Felix Aguger-Aliassime, 18, Canada, in a three- set thriller 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 in 2 hr 50 minutes in 3rd round coming from behind to reach the QFs. Both the players fired 11 Aces each in the match. Sixth seed Khachanov, however, won 7 break points to 5 by Aliassime. Both the players won 3 games each in the match.

Khachanov will face 3rd seed Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals at 11.30 pm on August 9. Zverev defeated World No 17 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 27, Georgia,  in a three-set thriller 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 in 2 hr 44 minutes in 3rd round on August 8, 2019, night. Zverev fired 15 Aces in the match to 3 by Basilashvili. Both the players won 5 break points each in the match. The Georgian, however, won 78 service points to 62 by the German.

Agut defeated World No 66 Richard Gasquet, 33, France, 7-5, 7-5 in 3rd round to enter the QFs. Both the players fired 8 Aces each in the match. But, Agut won 3 break points to 1 by Gasquet.

Agut will face World No 20 Gael Monfils, 32, France, in the  QFs. Monfils , the 16th seed, beat World No 48 Hubert Hurkacz, 22, Poland, 6-4, 6-0 in third round. Monfils won 4 break points in the match.
