Patna : World No 2 Rafael Nadal, Spain, and World No 3 Roger Federer, Switzerland, entered the quarter-finals of Italian Open on May 16, 2019, night, winning their respective Round of 16 matches in contrasting style. World No 9 Juan Martin del Porto  also entered the QFs of the tournament. Nadal is bidding for his 9th Italian Open title.

Defending champion Nadal, the winner of 17 Grand Slam singles title, crushed World No 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 27, Georgia, 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 16 in just 62 minutes to storm into the QFs of the tournament. Nadal broke Basilashvili’s service 5 times in the match besides winning 11 games in a row. Nadal won 29 service points to 17 by Basilashvili. Both the players served just 1 Ace each in the match.

World No 3 and winner of 20 Grand Slam singles title Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, entered the quarter-finals defeating World No 15 Borna Coric, 23, Croatia,  2-6, 6-4, 7-6 in the Round of 16 in 2 hr 31 minutes at Foro Italico, Rome, Italy, on May 16, 2019, night. Federer fired 9 Aces in the match to 5 by Coric. Federer won 2 break points to 3 Coric. Coric also won 4 games in a row in the match to3   by Federer. Coric won 65 service points to 67 by Federer.

del Porto beat World No 76 Caspur Ruud, 20, Norway, 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16 on May 16 night. Delpo fired 8 Aces in the match to 2 by Ruud. He won 3 break points to just 1 by Ruud. Delpo won 3 games in a row to 2 by Ruud.

World No 24 Diego Schwartzman, 26, Argentina, also entered the QFs defeating World No 33 Matteo Berrettini, 23, Italy, 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Berrettini had defeated World No 5 Alexander Zverev, Germany, in the second round.
