Nadal enters semi-finals of ATP Barcelona Open 500

Patna: World Number 1 and top seed Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, entered the semi-finals of ATP Barcelona Open 500 defeatin World Number 140 Martin Klizan, 28, Slovakia, 6-0, 7-5, in the quarter-finals on April 27, 2018. Nadal will play the winner of the fourth quarter-finals between World Number 10 and fourth seed David Goffin, 27, Belgium, and World Number 15 Roberto Bautista Agut,  30, Spain. Nadal has won Barcelona Open singles titles 10 times.

Nadal won the first set 6-0 but in the second set Klizan gave him a run for his money and was leading 5-4 after the 9th game. Nadal broke Klizan’s service in te 10th game to make it 5-5.  Nadal held his serve in the 11th game to lead 6-5.  He again broke Klizan’s serve in the 12 game to win the second set 7-5.

Klixan, a qualifier, had shocked former World Number 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round in three sets and World Number 30 Feliciano Lopez, 36, Spain, in the round of 16.
