Nadal edges past Tsitsipas in three-set marathon in sensational comeback in Nitto ATP Finals

Patna : Top seed and World No 1 Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, on November 15, 2019, night, beat 6th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, in a three-set marathon lasting 2hr 52 minutes in a Group Andre Agassi match in Nitto ATP Finals at O2 Arena, London, UK, making an epic comeback for the second consecutive match. Nadal edged past Tsitsipas 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 making a sensational comeback from one set down.

The match was a repeat of Nadal vs 4th seed Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, match in the same group on November 13 which the Spaniard won in three sets in 2hr 46 minutes battling back from one set down.

Nadal won two break points in the match to none by the Greek. Tsitsipas though hammered 11 Aces in the match to 6 by Nadal. The Spaniard’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (84% & 63 %) was much higher than that of Tsitsipas (76% & 51%). Both the players won 3 games each in a row. Tsitsipas won 78 service points to 70 by Nadal. The Spaniard finished with 38 winners and 30 unforced errors. Nadal now leads Tsitsipas 5-1 Head to Head.

The Greek had, howevrer, qualified for the semi-finals after winning his first two matches against Medvedev and defending Champion Alexander Zverev, Germany. Nadal will enter the semi-finals if Medvedev beats Zverev in Group Andre Agassi match starting after November 15 mid-night. Dominic Thiem, Austria, and Roger Federer, Switzerland, have already qualified for the SFs.
