Patna : Top seed Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, drubbed World No 35 Taylor Fritz, 22, USA, in final on March 1, 2020, to lift the Mexican Open title, an ATP World Tour 500 event played on hard courts at Acapulco, Mexico, for the third time, his first title in 2020. Nadal won 500 rankings points plus cash prize while Fritz secured 300 rankings points and cash prize.
World No 2 Nadal beat Fritz 6-3, 6-2 in just 74 minutes breaking the latter’s service thrice and winning 5 games in a row in the match to win his 85th ATP tour title. Nadal had won his first two Acapulco titles, the first in 2005, on clay courts.
Nadal hit 14 winners in the match and made just 8 unforced errors. Fritz though fired 10 Aces in the match to just 1 by the Spaniard, who committed 2 double faults. Nadal, in all, won 57 points to 36 by the American. He won 37 service points to 27 by Fritz, who was playing in his first ATP 500 series final. Nadal had also defeated 7th seed Grigor Dimitrov, Bulgaria, by identical score in semi-finals on February 29, 2020.
