Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, World No 3 Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, World No 5 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, and World No 24 Milos Raonic, 27, Canada, entered the 4th round of US Open 2018 championship on August 31, 2018, late night.

Three-time champion¬† and top seed Nadal beat World No 26 Karen Kachanov, 22, Russia, in four-sets in a very close contest 5-7, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6 in the third round. Kachanov hammered 22 Aces in the match to none by Nadal. But, Kachanov also committed 9 double faults to 3 by Nadal. Both the players won 5 break points. But, Nadal’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was better than that of his rival. Nadal won 4 games in a row to 3 by Kachanov. It was too close a contest for comfort for Nadal.

Former champion del Porto beat World No 32 Fernando Verdasco, 34, Spain, 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 to march into the 4th round. dep Porto fired 12 Aces in the match to 10 by Verdasco. Both the players committed 2 double faults each. But, del Porto’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was much better than that of his rival. World No 5 and 2017 finalist Anderson beat World No 32 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, in a five-set thriller 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-6 in the third round. Shapovalov fired 13 Aces in the match to 11 by Anderson. But, he also committed 8 double faults to just 1 by Anderson. Anderson won 3 break points to 2 by the Canadian. Both the players won 3 games in a row each in the match.

Raonic also entered the 4th round beating former champion Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the third round. Raonic fired 14 Aces in the match to 6 by Wawrinka. But, also committed 4 double faults to just 1 by Wawrinka. Raonic also won 3 break points to none by his rival. Raonic also won 3 games in a row in the match.

World No 11 John Isner, 33, USA, beat World No 62 Dusan Lajovic, 28, Serbia, in a tough 4-set contest 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 to enter the 4th round. Isner hammered 34 Aces in the match to just 4 by Lajovic. But, Isner also committed 5 double faults to none by Lajovic. Isner also won 2 break points.

World No 20 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, also entered the 4th round beating World No 36 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 in the third round.Coric fired 7 Aces in the match to 8 by Medvedev. Medvedev, however, committed 9 double faults to 2 by Coric. Corin won 6 break points to 2 by Medvedev.

World No 9 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, beat World No 74 Taylor Fritz, 20, USA, in four-sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 to enter the 4th round of US Open. Thiem hammered 18 Aces in the match to 13 by Taylor Fritz. Thiem committed 6 double faults to 7 by his rival. Thiem won 5 break points while Fritz won 4. Both the players won 3 games each in a row.

World No 37 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 26, Georgia, beat World No 66 Guido Pella, 28, Argentina, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 to enter the 4th round. Pella hammered 18 Aces in the match to just 3 by Nikoloz. Both the players won 4 break points each. Pella committed 5 double faults to 3 by Nikoloz.
