Nadal, Delpo, Anderson enter 3rd round of US Open 2018

Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and defending champion Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, World No 3 Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, and World No 5 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, entered the third round of US Open 2018 on August 30, 2018.

But, World No 18 Jack Sock, 25, USA, was shown the exit door by World No 37 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 26, Georgia, in the second round. Former champion Andy Murray, 31, UK, also lost in the second round to World No 32 Fernando Verdasco, 34, Spain, in four sets.

Nadal, the top seed and three time US Open champion, beat World No 88 Vasek Pospisil, 28, Canada, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round on Arthur Ashe Stadium, USA.

Former champion del Porto beat World No 72 Denis Kudla, USA, in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 to enter the third round of US Open. del Porto had won the US Open title in 2009. But, Nikoloz Basilashvili beat 18th seed Sock 4-6, 6-3,6-2, 7-6 to enter the third round.

World No 28 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, beat World No 51 Andreas Seppi, 34, Italy, in a five-set thriller 6-4, 4-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 to enter the third round.

World No 11 John Isner, 33, USA, also entered the third round by defeating N Jarry in a five-set encounter 6-7, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the second round on Grand Stand.

Verdasco beat three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray, who is making a comeback after injury lay off, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to march into third round.

Fifth seed Anderson, who had lost to Nadal in the 2017 US Open final, beat World No 46 Jeremy Chardy, 31, France, in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.
