Nadal, del Porto, Simon reach Wimbledon Round of 16

Patna : World Number 1 in ATP rankings and second seed Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, entered the Round of 16 of Wimbledon tennis championship on July 7, 2018, defeating World No 80 Alex de Minaur, 19, Australia, in the third round. Nadal defeated Minaur 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 on Centre Court.

Nadal committed just one double fault to 5 by Minaur. Nadal won 5 break points to none by Minaur. Minaur, however, fired 8 Aces compared to 5 by twice champion Nadal, who won 5 games in  a row in the match. Nadal’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was also much better than that of Minaur.

World Number 4 Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, also entered the Round of 16 defeating World Number 47 Benoit Paire, 29, France, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in the third round on Court 2. Paire fired 10 Aces in the match to 7 by del Porto. del Porto won 5 break points compared to 3 by Paire. Paire committed 6 double faults to 5 by del Porto, whose winning percentage on both his first and second serve was much better than that of his rival.

World Number 53 Gilles Simon, 33, France, also entered the Round of 16 defeating World Number 51 Matthew Ebden, 30, Australia, in a tough contest 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 in the third round on Court 18. Ebden, however, fired 15 Aces to 7 by Simon. But, Ebden also committed 12 double faults to just 2 by Simon. Ebden won just one break point while Simon won 4.
