Patna : Fourth seed Rafael Nadal, 35, Spain, defeated 6th seed Cameron Norries, 26, UK, in straight sets in final on February 27, 2022, morning, to win the Mexican Open title, an ATP 500 series outdoor hard courts event at Acapulco, Mexico, his 3rd title of the year and 91st overall on ATP tour. It is third hard court title in 2022 for Nadal. considered the King of clay courts.
World No 5 Nadal beat World No 12 Norrie 6-4, 6-4 in final in nearly 1hr 55 minutes to win the Mexican Open title for the 4th time. The Spaniard won the first set easily breaking Norrie’s service once. The Brit, however, put up a strong resistance in second set, which saw five breaks being traded between the two players. Nadal broke Norrie’s serve thrice in second set while the Brit, to his credit, broke his service twice. Top seed Daniil Medvedev , 26, Russia, was not able to break Nadal’s service service even once in semi-final on February 26, 2022.
