Patna : Sixth seed Rafael Nadal, 35, Spain, stormed into quarter-finals of Australian Open (AO) 2022 on January 22, 2022, defeating World No 60 Adrian Mannarino, 33, France, in straight sets in men’s singles 4th round on Rod Laver Areana, Melbourne Park,
Australia. Nadal defeated Mannarino, who had stunned 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz, Poland, in straight sets in 2nd round and 18th seed Aslan Karatsev, Russia, in four-sets in 3rd round, , 7-8, 6-2, 6-2 in 4th round.
Mannarino, however, put up a very strong resistance in the first set, which witnessed a marathon tie-break which Nadal won 16-14. But, Mannarino was no match to 2009 champion Nada in second and third set. The Spaniard fired 16 Aces during the match to 7 by the Frenchman. Nadal won 5 break points during the match to just 1 by Mannarino. But, Nadal’s break points conversion rate was ordinary to say the least. He created 17 break points opportunities but could convert only 5 of them, The Spainiard also won 4 games in a row during the math.
Nadal, in all,won 107 points during the match to 85 by Mannarino. He, however, won won 41 receiving points compared to 22 by the Frenchman. Nadal won 19 games in the match to 10 by Mannarino. Nadal though committed 6 double faults during the match to 4 by the Frenchman.
