Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, on June 2, 2018, crushed his long time friend and World No 32 Richard Gasquet, 31, France, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, in the third round on Philippe Chatrier court, Roland Garros, Paris, to enter Round of 16 at French Open 2018.
Although it turned out to be a one sided match with Nadal all over Gasquet during the match yet it was the French player who fired more Aces and also committed less double faults. Gasquet fired 8 Aces in the match compared to 3 by Nadal. Nadal committed 2 double faults compared to 1 by Gasquet.
But, Nadal won 6 break points compared to just 1 by Gasquet. Nadal also won 5 games in a row during the match compared to 3 by Gasquet. Nadal’s first and second serve percentage was also better than Gasquet, who was semi-finalist at Wimbledon in 2007 and 2016 and a French Open Quarter-finalist in 2016. Gasquet had also reached semi-finals of US Open in 2013 besides reaching 4th round of Australia Open 4 times.
World No 12 Diego Schwartzman, 25, Argentina, also entered the 4th round of French Open defeating World No 40 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3, in the 3rd round on Court 18. Schwartzman fired 8 Aces in the match compared to 4 by Coric. But, Coric committed 5 double faults compared to just 1 by Schwartzman, who won 6 break points.
World No 7 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, defeated World No 64 Mischa Zverev, 30, Germany, elder brother of World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 in the 3rd round on Court 1 to enter the Round of 16. Anderson fired 18 Aces in the match compared to 4 by Mischa Zverev. But, Anderson committed 6 double faults compared to 2 by Mischa Zverev.
World No 9 David Goffin, 27, Belgium, entered the 4th round defeating World No 37 Gael Monfils, 31, France, in a five-set thriller on Suzanne Lenglen Court 6-7, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the 3rd round. Goffin committed 10 double faults in the match compared to 2 by Monfils. Goffin fired 4 Aces in the match compared to 6 by Monfils. But, Goffin won 11 break points while Monfils won 8.
World No 18 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, defeated World No 17 Kyle Edmund, 23, UK, in a marathon five set match on Suzanne Lenglen Court 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the 3rd round to enter Round of 16. Both the players committed 5 double faults each in the match. But, Fognini fired 7 Aces compared to 2 by Edmund. Fognini won 7 break points while Edmund won 6.
World No 70 Maximillin Marterer, 22, Germany, defeated World No 136 Jurgen Zopp, 30, Estonia, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4, in the third round on Court 7 to enter the Round of 16 on June 2. Marterer fired 4 Aces in the match compared to just 1 by Zopp. Marterer also won 5 break points compared to none by Zopp. Marterer, however, committed 2 double faults.
