Nadal, A Zverev, Isner, Ferrer enter 2nd round of ATP Mexican Open

Patna : Top seed and World No 2 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, entered the second round of Mexican Open, an ATP 500 points tournament played on hardcourts, at Acapulco, Mexico, on February 27, 2019. Two-time Champion Nadal beat World No 76 Mischa Zverev, 31, Germany, 6-3, 6-3 in 1hr 20 minutes in the first round. Mischa Zverev is elder brother of World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany.

Nadal, who had first won the Mexican Open in 2005, broke Mischa Zverev’s service thrice in the match besides winning 4 games in a row. Nadal served 3 Aces to 5 by Mischa Zverev. Nadal committed 4 double faults in the match to 3 by Mischa. Nadal’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 69% & 85%) was better than that of Mischa (66% & 50%). Nadal had won this tournament in 2005 and 2013.

Second seed Alexander Zverev beat World No 133 Alexei Popyrin, 19, Australia, 6-3, 6-3 in 1hr 10 minutes to enter the 2nd round. Zverev fired 13 Aces to 4 by Popyrin. Zverev broke Popyrin’s service three times in the match besides winning 3 games in a row.

Third seed and World No 9 John Isner beat World No 51 Adrian Mannarino, 30, France, in three-sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round. Isner hammered 18 Aces in the match to 3 by Mannarino, who committed 6 double faults. Isner broke Mannarino’s service three times while the latter broke his service once.

Four-time champion and World No 145 David Ferrer, 36, Spain, beat World No 84 Tennys Sandgren, 27, USA, 7-6, 7-6 in the first round. Sandgren though fired 12 Aces in the match to 3 by Ferrer. Ferrer also committed 4 double faults to 1 by Sandgren. Ferrer won both the tie breaks.

World No 73 Feliciano Lopez, 37, Spain, also entered the second round beating World No 43 Dusan Lajovic, 28, Serbia, in three-sets 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the first round. Lopez fired 14 Aces in the match to 4 by Lajovic. Lopez though also committed 7 double faults in the match. But, he broke Lajovic’s service 6 times while the latter broke his service thrice.

World No 72 Nick Kyrgios, 23, Australia, beat World No 49 Andreas Seppi, 35, Italy, 6-3, 705 in the first round. Krygios fired 13 Aces in the match to 6 Seppi. Kygios broke Seppi’s service 4 times while the latter his service once.
