Patna: World No 32 Garbine Muguruza, 26, Spain, knocked World No 3 and reigning Wimbledon Champion Simona Halep, 28, Romania, out of the Australian Open (AO) 2020 defeating her in straight sets in the second semi-finals at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on January 30, 2020. Muguruza will face World No 15 Sofia Kenin, 21, USA, in the final.

Muguruza, who had won French Open title in 2016 and Wimbledon title in 2017, beat fourth seed Simona Halep 7-6, 7-5 in semi-finals in a tough contest. Muguruza, a former World No 1 who has won 7 WTA titles, broke Simona’s service in 10th and 12th game of the second set to win the match. The Spaniard fired 10 Aces in the match to 2 by Simona. She won 4 break points in the match to 3 by the Romanian. She also won 4 games in a row to 3 by Simona. Both the players won 51 service points each in the match.
