Patna : World No 3 Garbine Muguruza, 28, Spain, beat World No 7 Anett Kontaveit, 25, Estonia, in straight sets in final to win the season-ending Akron WTA Finals title at Zapopan,Guadalajara, Mexico, on November 17, 2021, late night. It was Muguruza’s 10th career title. She is the first Spaniard to win the season-ending WTA Finals trophy. Muguruza had won French Open singles title in 2016 and Wimbledon singles title in 2017.
Sixth seed Muguruza defeated 8th seed Kontaveit in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in 1hr 38 minutes in final to win the title. Muguruza won 5 break points during the match to 2 by the Estonian. She also won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by Kontaveit. Muguruza, in all, won 81 points in the match to 63 points by Kontaveit, who committed 6 double faults.
Muguruza’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 69% & 62 %) was much better than that of Kontaveit’s ( 60% & 47 %). The Spaniard won the last 4 games during the match.

The Spaniard had also defeated Kontaveit in a Group stage match on November 15, 2021, Muguruza had lost to World No 4 Karolina Pliskova, 29, Czech Republic, in a Group stage match in straight sets on November 11, 2021.
Barbora Krejcikova & Katerina Siniakova won the doubles title defeating Hsieh Su-wei & Elise Mertens 6-3, 6-4 in final.
