Patna : World No 4 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Kento Momota, 24, Japan, beat World No 1 Viktor Axelsen, 24, Denmark, to reach the final of Japan Open BFW Tour Super 750 tournament on September 15, 2018, at Tokyo.
Kento Momota, the third seed and reigning World Champion, beat top seed Axelsen 21-18, 21-11 in 53 minute in the semi-final. Momota now hold 9-2 head to head record against Axelsen, the 2017 World Champion.
In the women’s section, Asian Games 2018 Gold Medallist Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, reached the final of Japan Open beating World No 17 Aya Ohori, 21, Japan, in the semi-finals on September 15, 2018. World No 8 Okuhara, the 2017 World Champion, beat Ohori 21-12, 21-12 in 47 minute.
