Motihari : Shocked  and angry following the death of  one Deepak Kumar, 26, in a road accident  on Dhaka-Motihari road on August 16, 2020, late night, a mob of around hundred villagers of Chiraiya market  attacked Chiraiya primary health center (PHC) and Chiraiya police station  in East Champaran in North Bihar and vandalised about a dozen vehicles  parked on the police station campus. They set afire five vehicles including tractor, pickup, and  motorcycles earlier seized by police and parked  on police station campus. Two police jeeps were also vandalised  by the mob.

East Champaran SP Navin Chandra Jha reached Chiraiya police station, 22 km away from district headquarters Motihari, and
brought the situation under control.  SP Jha said  police had to fire several rounds in the air to disperse the furious mob, which indulged in arson and vandalism. Police arrested 45 persons in connection with the incident they were remanded to  judicial custody on August 17, 2020. Police is investigating the case and more named accused would  be arrested soon in connection with the incident, the SP added.

According to Indrajit Paswan, SHO, Chiraiya Police Station, a speeding vehicle dashed the bike of Deepak Kumar of Chiraiya market area near village Mirpur on Dhaka-Motihari road under the police station on August 16, 2020, late night, when he was going to Motihari. Deepak Kumar was seriously injured in the accident and was rushed to Chiraiya PHC  but he died  during treatment  there.

After death of Deepak, the mob went on rampage and attacked the PHC staff.  After sometime  some rowdy  elements allegedly  joined the mob and  reached Chiraiya police station, the SHO said and added that they first vandalised about a dozen seized vehicles parked on the police station campus and set afire five vehicles. The policemen were beaten up by the mob and  chased  away from the there.
