Mob hacks to death youth, also shot at him after that in Bhagalpur

Bhagalpur : Police have arrested three out of the 21 accused in connection with lynching of  one Himanshu Yadav of village Gaurachakki by a mob, which also fired on him six times on June 6, 2017, following  the orders of an unofficial village Panchayat for marrying a girl Soni of the same caste but of  same Gotra (clan) from his neighbourhood in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. The mob also took away the girl with them. The Panchayat had also annulled the marriage.

Confirming the incident, Bhagalpur range DIG Vikas Vaibhav on June 8 said that police were searching for the remaining accused many of whom had participated in the panchayat. The DIG said that Himanshu had eloped with the girl in 2016 too but at that time she was a minor hence he was jailed on kidnapping charge and was on bail. They again eloped recently after the girl became a major and got married and after sometime started living together at the village, the DIG aded. Himanshu’s family members had approved of their marriage but Soni’s family strongly opposed it, said sources. Police have been deployed at Himanshu’s home after the incident.
