Motihari : Twenty persons were arrested on April 29, 2020, for attacking a police team with sticks and blunt objects when it was enforcing lockdown restrictions and social distancing at village Sisahani under Pakaridayal police station in East Champaran district the same day.
Seven police personnel including 2 ASIs, four constables including two women, and driver of police jeep, sustained injuries in the mob attack at Sisahani, 16 km away from Motihari, headquarters of East Champaran District. The mob also vandalised the police jeep. All the injured policemen were admitted to Pakaridayal Sub-Divisional Hospital.
SDPO, Pakaridayal, Dinesh Kumar Pandey, rushed to Sisahani under Pakaridayal police station on getting information about attack on the police team and after preliminary inquiry arrested 20 residents of the village for attacking cops. SDPO Pandey said that a police team had reached village Sisahani to implement lockdown restrictions and social distancing to check the spread of Coronavirus infection in the wake of five persons testing positive to the disease in East Champaran District recently. The shops at the village were found open and villagers were seen near the shops. Police asked the shopkeepers to close their shops and chased the villagers away from there asking them to stay inside their houses.
Suddenly, some persons came out of their houses and attacked policemen with sticks and blunt objects. They thrashed the cops and damaged the police jeep. Sisahani is a naxal infested village. Criminals are running more than 25 illegal country liquor manufacturing units at the village and police suspect them to be behind the attack on the cops.
