Bagaha : Over one thousand labourers, who worked under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (Mnrega) schemes under Bagaha sub-division in West Champaran district are yet to receive their payment for the work done from January 17 to February,2017.
A visit to Semara-Labdeha panchayat under Piparasi block, Nayagoan-Rampur panchayat under Bagaha-2 block and Chakhani -Rajawstia panchayat under Bagaha-1 block makes it clear that Mnrega workers are yet to receive their wages. Sukhal Ram, Subhas Ram and Manawati Devi of Semara- Labdeha panchayat, Chandrika Bind, Esrawati Devi, Phulkumari Devi of Nayagoan -Rampurawa panchayat, and Tetari Devi, Urmila Devi and Radheyshyam Musahar of Chakhan-Rajawatia panchayat said that their wages for one -and- a- half- month were yet to deposited into their accounts. All of them wondered how they would celebrate Holi festival.
Manorma Devi and Aasha Devi, Mukhiya of Semara-Labdeha and Nayagoan-Rampur panchayat respectively, said that works had been stopped without paying wages of the labourers though wage has to be paid within a week of the work done. According to an officer of the district, who deals in MGNREGA but did not want to be quoted, said that about Rs 10.26 crore are due to the labourers in West Champaran district.
Birendar Gupta, a CPI (ML) state committee member, says that under the National rural employment guarantee Act 2005 in case of delay in payment, compensation has to given to the workers at the rate of 0.05% per day.
