Nawada: Mufassil police officials busted an ongoing milk pilferage racket on NH31 and seized a milk tanker and two Bolero vehicles involved in the pilferage on Friday. The milk tanker, bound for Gaya dairy, was carrying milk worth Rs 4, 28,330 from Barauni dairy.

Significantly, the seizure comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s notice to the Central government on Friday asking it to increase the quantum of punishment from the present 6 months jail to life imprisonment to those involved in adulteration and manufacturing of synthetic milk. While the tanker driver managed to flee, two drivers of the Bolero vehicles besides two others were arrested.

Nawada SP Vikash Burman flashed the development to mediapersons on WhatsAap a little after Friday midnight.  Mufassil PS SHO, Sanjay Kumar Singh, on Saturday morning said that during a routine police patrolling on NH 31 around Friday midnight, they detected a tanker offloading milk through pipes into several small containers kept in two Bolero vehicles beside a roadside hotel at Americabigha, 14 km from Mufassil PS. Taken aback by the unexpected arrival of the police, the tanker driver managed to flee but the drivers of the Bolero vehicles and two others were caught in the act. The SHO suspected that the racket was going on for long and the pilfered milk was being supplied to small milk vendors. The loss of milk was later compensated by adding water to the milk in the tanker.

Around 1,300 liters of milk had already been transferred to the small containers when the police arrived. While one of the Bolero vehicles belonged to Onma village under Sheikhopursarai block in Sheikhpura district, the other belonged to Giriak of adjoining Nalanda district.
