Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) scored a modest 162/9 in 20 overs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first match of IPL at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on September 19, 2020, with Saurabh Tiwary scoring 42 in 31 balls hitting 3 fours and a six and opener Quinton de Kock making 33 in 20 balls with 5 fours. CSK won the toss and opted to bowl. CSK fast bowler Lungi Ngidi took 3/38 in 4 overs while spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 2/42 in 4 overs. Deepak Chahar took 2/32 in 4 overs.

Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma (captain) added 46 runs for first wicket.But, both fell in quick succession. Rohit fell to spinner Piyush Chawla for 12 in 10 balls with 2 fours making it 46/1. de Kock fell to fast bowler Sam Curran when the score was 48. Saurabh Tiwary and SuryakKumar Yava added 44 runs for the third wicket. Yadav fell to Deepak Chahar for 17 and it was 92/3.

Tiwary fell to spinner Ravindra Jadeja and it was 121/4. All-rounder Hardik Pandya too fell to Jadeja for 14 making it 124/5. Hardik Pandya hit Jadeja two back to back sixes. His brother Krunal Pandya to fast bowler Lungi Ngidi for 3 and it was 136/6. All rounder Kieron Pollard fell to Lungi Ngidi for 18 with 1 four and a six and it was 151/7.
