Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) thumped Delhi Capitals (DC) by 9 wickets in the 51st match of IPL at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE, on October 31, 2020, evening, sealing a place in the Play Off. Replying to DC’s 110/9 in 20 overs, MI scored 111/1 in just 14.2 overs with opener Ishan Kishan scoring an unbeaten 72 in 47 balls hitting 8 fours and 3 sixes- one each off Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Pravin Dubey. MI had won the toss and opted to bowl. Ishan Kishan hit the winning six on the 2nd ball of the 15th over bowled by fast bowler Anrich Nortje. Kishan was named Player Of the Match.
It was MI’s 9th win in 13 matches and they have now 18 points securing a top-two spot. For DC, it was their 6th defeat in 13 matches and they remained pegged at 14 points. It was MI’s first win at Dubai in IPL matches.
Batting first, DC lost their 1st wicket that of star opener Shikhar Dhawan with only 1 run on board. Dhawan fell to fast bowler Trent Boult for zero, his second successive duck. His opening partner Prithvi Shaw also fell to Boult for 10 and it was 15/2. Captain Shreyas Iyer fell to spinner Rahul Chahar for 25 in 29 balls with a four and a six and it was 50/3. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis fell to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for 2 making it 57/4. Rishabh Pant (wk) too fell to Bumrah for 21 in 24 balls with 2 fours and it was 62/5.
Harshal Patel also fell to Bumrah for 5 making it 73/6. Shimron Hetmyer fell to fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile (NCN) for 11 in 13 balls with 1 four and it was 78/7. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin fell to Boult for 12 making it 96/8. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was run out for 12 in 7 balls with a six and it was 110/9 in 20 overs.
For MI, Bumrah took 3/17 in 4 overs while Boult took 3/21 in 4 overs. NCN took 1/14 in 2 overs while Rahul Chahar took 1/24.
Chasing the target, MI openers Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock added 68 runs for 1st wicket. De Kock fell to Nortje for 26 in 28 balls hitting 2 fours. Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 12 in 11 balls with 1 four. Hardik Pandya was rested for this match.
