Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets in the 42nd match of IPL at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on September 28, 2021, late night, as all-rounder Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 40 runs in 30 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes while all-rounder Kieron Pollard scored an unbeaten 15 in 7 balls with 1 four and 1 six. MI scored 41 runs in last 3 overs ( 17th to 19th overs). MI had won the toss and opted to bowl. Kieron Pollard was named Player Of The Match.

Hardik Pandya and Pollard added 45 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 5th wicket. Saurabh Tiwary scored a crucial 45 runs in 37 balls hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Chasing a target of 136 runs, MI scored 137/4 in 19 overs. MI have now 10 points from 11 games while PBKS have 8 points from 11 games. It was MI’s first win in last 4 four matches.

Hardik got after fast bowler Mohd Shami hitting him for 17 runs in 19th overs including a last ball six and 2 fours. He also hit Shami for a four and a six in 17th over. Pollard hit fast medium bowler Arshdeep Singh for a four and a six in 18th over.

Chasing the target, MI did not have a good start losing the wickets of captain Rohit Sharma (8 runs)  and Suryakumar Yadav (0) with only 16 runs on board., Both of them fell to spinner Ravi Bishnoi when the MI score was 16 runs. Opener Quinton de Kock scored 27 runs in 29 balls with 2 fours. de Kock fell to Mohd Shami. Saurabh Tiwary fell to Nathan Elis making it 92/4.

Batting first, PBKS had scored 135/6 in 20 overs with South African Aiden Markram scoring 42 runs in 29 balls with 6 fours, Captain K L Rahul (opener & wk) scored 21 runs while Chris Gayle scored just 1 run. Deepak Hooda scored 28 runs in 26 balls with 1 four and 1 six.
