Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)  by 10 runs in the 5th match of IPL 2021 at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamilnadu, on April 13, 2021, late night, as leg spinner Rahul Chahal took 4/27 in 4 overs. KKR needed 15 runs in the last over but fast medium bowler Trent Boult took two wickets that of Andre Russel and Pat Cummins in that over conceding just 4 runs. KKR had won the toss but opted to bowl. Chahar was named Player Of The Match.

Chasing a target of 153 runs, the KKR could score only 142/7 in 20 overs even as openers Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana had given them  a brilliant start putting in 72 runs for the first wicket in 8.5 overs. But, Gill Rahul Chahar. Rahul Tripathy also fell to Chahar for 5 making it 84/2 in 10.3 overs. KKR were still well placed but captain Eoin Morgan too fell to Chahar for zero making it 104/3.

Nitish Rana also fell to Chahar soon for 57 in 47 balls hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes and it was 122/4 in 15 overs. Spinner Krunal Pandya then accounted for all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (9) and it was 122/5 in 15.2 overs. Andre Russel fell to Boult for 9 making it 140/6 after 19.3 overs. Pat Cummins also fell to Boult for zero making it 140/7 after 19.4 overs. Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten on 8 while Harbhajan Singh remained 2 not out. KKR scored just 11 runs in last 3 overs. Krunal Pandya bowled excellentlt to finish with 1/13 in 4 overs.

Batting first, MI were all out for just 152 with captain Rohit Sharma scoring 43 runs and Suryakumar Yadav scoring 57 runs.
