Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) thumped Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE, on November 10, 2020, late night, to win the IPL Trophy for the fifth time. All-rounder Krunal Pandya hit the winning single. Replying to DC’s 156/7, MI scored 157/5 in 18.4 overs with captain Rohit Sharma (opener) leading from the front scoring 68 in 51 balls hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes while Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 33 in 19 balls with 3 fours and a six.
DC had won the toss and opted to bat. DC captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 65 in 50 balls hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes while Rishabh Pant (wk) scored 56 in 38 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. DC had lost their first three wickets including that of openers Marcus Stoinis and Shikhar Dhawan for just 22 runs on board. Stoinis fell to fast bowler Trent Boult for zero. Dhawan also fell to Boult for 15. Ajinkya Rahane fell to spinner Jayant Yadav 2 and it was 22/3.
MI made a solid start with opener Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock adding 45 runs for first wicket. De Kock fell to Stoinis for 20. Rohit added 45 runs or 2nd wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar was run out for 19 and it was 90/2. Rohit fell to fast bowler Anrich Nortje for 68 making it 137/3. Kieron Pollard fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for 9 and it was 147/4. Hardik Pandya fell to Nortje for 1 and it was 156/5.
MI had earlier won the IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019, all odd years. They have retained the title in 2020. They were playing in the 6th IPL Final.
