Patna : Top seed & World No 3 Daniil Medvedev, 25, Russia, beat World No 93 Pierre-Huegues Herbert, 29, France, in a three-set battle in final to lift the singles title at ATP Open 13 Provence at Marseille, France, on March 14, 2021, night. Medvedev beat Herbert 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in 2hrs 11 minutes in final for his 10th career title.
Medvedev fired 12 Aces in the match to 9 by the Frenchman. The Russian won 3 break points to 1 by Herbert. Medvedev also won 2 games in a row in the match. The Russian, in all, won 104 points in the match to 94 by Herbert. who had stunned 2nd seed & World No 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 22, Greece, in quarter-finals.
Medvedev bagged 250 ATP Rankings points for winning the title while Herbert secured 150 Rankings points. With this win, Medvedev will overtake Rafael Nadal, Spain, in the ATP Rankings to be released on March 15, 2021. The Russian was trailing Nadal by just 115 points.
