Patna : Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte better know as Mary Kom, 35, India, won gold medal in women’s 45kg-48kg light flyweight boxing category at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) on April 14, 2018, defeating Northen Ireland’s Kristina O’ Hara,22, in a unanimous 5-0 decision and dominated her opponent throughout the match.

Mary Kom, a Rajya Sabha MP and bronze medallist at 2012 London Olympics in 51 kg flyweight category, won the gold medal on her debut in Commonwaelth Games. She hails from Imphal, Manipur, and a a five time World Amatear Boxing Champion.

With it, India’s gold medal tally at the Gold Coast CWG increased to 18. India has so far won 43 medals including 18 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze.
