Married woman commits suicide at Bhojpur village

Ara : Geeta Devi, 25, wife of Madhusudan Giri of village Samhuta Mathia in Rohtas district, woman committed suicide by consuming poison at Agiaw Bazaar under Gadhani police station in Bhojpur District on August 24, 2019, evening.

Police recovered the body from her room on August 25, 2019, and brought it over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Family dispute is said to be the cause behind the incident.  Geeta Devi, wife of Madhusudan Giri of Samhuta Mathia village in Rohtas district, lived at a rented house at Agiaw Bazaar under Gadhani police station in Bhojpur district and earned her livelihood by selling eatable items.

An FIR has been lodged with Gadhani police station against her husband Madhusudan Giri on the statement of her father Vishwanath Giri of Harkhahi Mathia under Krishnabrahm police station in Buxar district but no arrest has so far been made in this connection though police are investigating the matter and also conducting raids to arrest the named accused.

SHO, Gadhani police station, quoting the FIR, said that Geeta Devi, daughter of Vishwanath Giri of Harkhahi village under Krishnabrahm police station in Buxar district, was married to Madhusudan Giri of Samhuta Mathia in Rohtas district about four years ago and ever was allegedly being tortured by her in-laws for a motorcycle and a gold chain.

Three years after the marriage, the father of deceased gave a motorcycle but the in-laws demanded a gold chain and when their demand could not be fulfilled, they tortured Geeta Devi both mentally and physically, the SHO said. Besides, Madhusudan Giri allegedly had illicit relation with a close relative which Geeta Devi always protested that infuriated him and other family members and so she left her in-laws’ house and started living at rented house at Agiaw Bazaar under Gadhani police station in Bhojpur district, the SHO added. But, here too her in-laws and husband did not spare her and Geeta Devi had complained to the SP against her husband 15 days ago. The SHO further said that her husband is absconding since the death of Geeta Devi but police are conducting raids to arrest him.
