Ara : A married woman Nitu Devi, 21, was killed at her in-laws’ place at village Moap Khurd under Imadpur police station in Bhojpur district on November 3, 2018, night, for opposing her husband’s illicit relation with another woman and also for more dowry.

Police brought the body over to Sadar Hospital, Ara, for postmortem. A named FIR has been lodged with Imadpur police station against three persons including Nitu Devi’s husband on the statement her father but no arrest has so far been made in this connection.

SHO, Imadpur police station, said that Nitu Devi, daughter of Chhabi Singh of village Perhap under Sahar police station, was married to Nand Kumar Singh, son of Jai Kumar Yadav of Moap Khurd village under the police station on April 2017. Quoting the FIR, the SHO said that Nand Kumar Singh alleged had illicit relation with another woman which Nitu Devi protested while her in-laws were demanding Rs 50,000 motre as dowry.

When their demand was not fulfilled and Nitu Devi continued to object gto Nand Kumar’s illicit relation with another woman, her in-laws started torturing her. So she lived with her parents at Perhap village. Her in-laws had taken Nitu Devi back to Moap Khurd just 10 days ago but continued torturing her and allegedly sprinkled kerosene oil on her on November 3 night and set her ablaze, the SHO said.
