Patna : World No 33 Maria Sakkari, 24, Greece, upset two-time former Wimbledon Champion and World No 6 Petra Kvitová, 29, Czech Republic, in a three-set encounter in 2nd round of Western & Southern Open, a WTA Premier tournament, at Cincinati Ohio, USA, on August 14, 2019.

Sakkari beat 6th seed Kvitová 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to enter the third round of the Hard Courts event. Both the players won 4 break points each in the match.
