Man stabs wife to death at Rohtas village, arrested

Sasaram : A married woman Maya Devi, 30, wife of Mahendra Kumar Singh of village Malaw under Darigao police station in Rohtas district succumbed to her injuries on January 31, 2019, night. A named FIR was lodged with Nokha police station against Mahendra Kumar Singh, her husband, a tempo driver, on the statement of the deceased’s brother Raju Kumar. Police arrested Mahendra Singh and sent him to jail.

SHO, Nokha police station Pramod Kumar Singh, said that Mahendra Kumar Singh of village Malaw under Darigao police station in Rohtas district had taken his wife Maya Devi to his brother-in-law (bahanoi) Vindhyachal Singh at Pachchhimpatti locality Ward No 1 under Nokha police station on January 29, 2019, where he had some tiff with her and he attacked her with a knife and injured her. He himself took her to Primary Health Centre (PHC) where the doctor referred her to the Sasaram Sadar Hospital for better treatment after first aid. But, Mahendra Kumar Singh took her to his native village Malaw instead where she  succumbed to her injuries on January 31, 2019, for want of proper treatment.

Raju Kumar, deceased’s brother, said that Mahendra Kumar Singh is a drunkard and spent all his earning on liquor that caused financial crisis. Mahendra Kumar Singh had taken a three- wheeler on loan and Maya Devi paid the loan of Rs 1  lakh after getting the amount from her father Fulendra Singh of Darihat.

Raju Kumar said that Mahendra Kumar Singh again took another three- wheeler on loan and compelled his wife to get money from her father for the payment of loan but she opposed it. At this, Mahendra Kumar Singh started thrashing and threatening her. On January 29, 2019, he took Maya Devi to his brother-in-law (sadhu) at Nokha and then proceeded to his brother-in-law (bahanoi) Vindhyachal Singh. He pressurised Maya Devi to ask for money from her father and when she refused, he attacked  her with a knife.

After her death, when Mahendra Kumar Singh was trying to burn the body, Raju Kumar along with other family members reached there and caught Mahendra Kumar Singh and handed him over to police.
