Saharsa : Police arrested one Chandra Bhushan Singh of village Banchollah under Baidyanathpur police outpost (OP) in Saharsa district for trying to kill her daughter-in-law Soni Devi by forcibly administering poison to her on February 28, 2017, night when she failed to meet her in-laws’ dowry demand. Soni has been admitted to Saharsa Sadar hospital.
Soni was married to Chandra Bhushan’s son Mithilesh Singh nine year back and ever since her in-laws had been torturing her for not meeting their dowry demand. On February 28 evening, Soni told her sister Nitu Devi on mobile phone that her father-in-law family Chandra Bhushan Singh and his family members were trying to kill her by forcing her to drink poison. Nitu, who lives at Gwalpara in Madhepura districtand, reached Soni’s in-laws’ place the same evening and also informed police about the threat to her sister’s life.
Soni, a native of Panch Vinda in Samastipur district, said at Sadar given hospital that at the time of her marriage her father had given enough dowry. Her husband Mithilesh works in Gujarat. Soni said that when she failed to meet the dowry demands of her in-laws, they and her husband started abusing and beating her frequently. She alleged that two year back her daughter Bobby was killed and now his son Gaurav had disappeared. She had lodged an FIR against her father-in-law, her husband and three other persons with police in this connection. Baidyanathpur police have swung into action to rescue her son.
