Patna : Rebel JD(U) Sharad Yadav on August 27, 2017, attended the RJD’s `BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao’ rally at Patna Gandhi Maidan defying party’s order asking him not to attend the rally. JD(U) Secretary General K C Tyagi, in a letter to Yadav, had asked him not to attend the rally and if he attends it would mean that he has quit the party voluntarily. RJD chief Lalu Prasad warmly greeted former JD(U) president Sharad Yadav by embracing him on the dais.
In a show of opposition unity against the BJP, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and C P Joshi, NCP leader Tariq Anwar, CPI General Secretary S Sudhar Reddy and Secretary D Raja, JMM leader and former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha chief Babulal Marandi attended the rally. But, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi and senior CPM leaders skipped the rally.
Tight security arrangements have been made for the rally at Gandhi Maidan where 64 CCTV cameras have been installed.
