Sitamarhi : The Mahanth of Siddhi Aashram Temple Hari Narain Das, 81, was shot dead by an unidentified goon around 9 pm on February 23, 2021, at Sitamarhi, headquarters of Sitamarhi District in North Bihar, triggering panic among the locals. Siddhi Ashram Temple is located on the outskirts of Sitamarhi Town.
Around 15-20 persons including some women attacked and ransacked the temple premises. One Sunita Devi ,wife of a junior priest, too sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a Nursing Home. Two dozen persons have been named in the FIR lodged with police in connection withe the murder of Mahanth Hari Narain Das.
Police sources said that protracted land cases and quarrel appears to be the reason behind the incident. Police are searching the CCTV footage but none has been arrested in this connection so far. The murder of Mahanth Hari Narain Das has made the people apprehensive in view of deterioration in law and order in the district in recent months.
