Patna : World No 30 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Sameer Verma, 23, India, lost in the quarter-finals of Australian Open Badminton, a BWF Super 300 event, to Lu Guangzu, 21, China, on May 11, 2018. Guangzu, ranked 165 in world, crushed Sameer Verma 21-14, 21-6 in just 34 minutes to enter the semi-finals of Australian Open.

Sameer hails from Madhya Pradesh, India, and his elder brother Sourabh Verma is also an international badminton player ranked 49th in the world. Their father Sudhir Verma is a employed with Narmada Valley Development Authority.
